AERA-E: Counseling and Human Development Forum
We have a great offer for summer training programs.
*Prepare to analyze the new education datasets at the ICPSR Summer Program*
Student records collected for ‘No Child Left Behind’ and the new ‘Race
to the Top’ program promise to revolutionize educational research.
Researchers will soon have access to massive datasets in complex
longitudinal and multilevel formats. For example, soon there will be
data collected over time on students and their teachers from several
states. This new information will enable researchers to address many
questions involving the relationship between teacher quality and student
achievement, the qualities of effective schools, and achievement gaps
across different groups of students over time. There will also be
extensive opportunities for evaluation studies aimed at answering the
concerns expressed by the states and their local school districts.
Analysis of these new data sets will require advanced methodological
strategies designed for complicated data structures, such as
longitudinal analysis, multilevel models, and trajectory models.
The Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research
(ICPSR) Summer Program in Quantitative Methods of Social Research offers
workshops on research methodologies that are critical to education
researchers. ICPSR workshops are conveniently brief (3-5 days), but they
include as much material as a semester-long course. Our instructors are
renowned not only for their technical expertise, but also for their
excellence as teachers -- in many cases they literally wrote the book on
the subject.
Please visit our website (http://icpsr.umich.edu/sumprog) for more
information about the Program, our course schedule for 2010, and the fee
structure.
*IMPORTANT NEWS: As a get-acquainted offer, all members of AERA can
register for 2010 ICPSR Summer Program workshops at ICPSR members rates,
which are substantially lower than the fees for participants from
non-member institutions! Simply register online, and then send us a
message indicating your AERA membership. We will adjust your account to
member rates.*
