AERA-GS Graduate Studies Discussion Forum

Hi, I hope this is an appropriate forum to ask this question. I am a new program assistant for graduate programs within the School of Education at Iowa State University. The School of Education is a relatively new entity and so has not yet established consistency in how we allocate money for graduate student scholarships. I would be grateful to receive the following information:

1. Name of school and how many education graduate students you serve
2. How do you allocate your graduate student scholarship money? I.e. do you allocate a certain amount to each department/area depending on how many students are in the department? Do you give out a lot of little scholarships so more students can receive or you give out fewer but larger scholarships?
3. How do you determine who receives a scholarship (nominated by faculty, solicit applications or essays from students to be reviewed by committee, etc.)?

Please feel free to add anything else you think might be relevant.

Thanks so much!

Sincerely,
Robyn Goldy
