Chair, Department of Teaching and Learning Principles
UCF is a major metropolitan research university, providing
the academic core for central Florida. The University enrolls
more than 33,000 students and is the fastest growing
university in Florida. The main campus is located in
northeastern Orlando, at the center of a growing, diverse
community of nearly two million people. Area campuses are
located in Brevard, Lake, and Volusia counties with many
additional sites in the central Florida region. UCF provides
academic leadership for the central Florida region through
strategic partnerships with public and private sector
organizations and corporations. It also has met all of the
criteria for the Carnegie classification of doctoral
intensive and is accredited by the Southern Association of
Colleges and Schools.
The College of Education has 126 full-time faculty who serve
approximately 4,000 students in 11 undergraduate programs and
25 graduate programs, 11 of which are housed in the
department of Teaching and Learning Principles. The College
is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of
Teacher Education (NCATE). In the most recent accreditation
process, NCATE indicated no weaknesses and commended the
College for its educational partnerships.
The Department of Teaching and Learning Principles is the
largest of four departments in the College with 35 tenured
and tenure-earning faculty members. The department provides
programs in K-12 education (Art, Music, Physical Education,
Foreign Language, and Educational Media); elementary/middle
education; and secondary and post-secondary education and
training (English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and
Vocational Education & Industry Training).
The chairperson holds an academic/administrative position in
the College and reports to the Dean. The chair must possess
the vision, professional ability, and ethical standards to
provide academic leadership, including teaching, research and
service, for the faculty and programs in the department. The
chair also must develop and manage budgets, and serve as the
primary advocate for faculty and programs of the department
as part of the college administrative team.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Earned doctorate in Education or a closely related field ·
Experience and achievement that warrant appointment as a
tenured Associate or Full Professor at UCF · Academic
leadership and experience, including faculty development,
curriculum development, and budgeting · Successful experience
collaborating with public schools and community organizations
· Significant teaching experience
