Psychometrician/Senior Psychometrician ? Examinations Team
The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants is
recruiting a Psychometrician to provide technical support and
leadership for its professional examination programs.
Applicants with additional appropriate experience will be
considered at the Senior Psychometrician level. The position
will be located in Ewing, NJ, which is located between
Trenton and Princeton.
Job Description
The psychometrician will work in the areas of test
preparation and evaluation for the Uniform Certified Public
Accountant Examination (CPA Exam), the International Uniform
CPA Examination Qualifying Examination (IQEX), the Personal
Financial Specialist Examination (PFS) and the Accreditation
in Business Valuation Examination (ABV).
The CPA Exam is used in licensing CPAs in 54 jurisdictions in
the United States, and has over 110,000 candidates taking it
each year. The CPA Exam is beginning a transition from a
paper-based to a computer-based test, to be complete in 2003.
The other professional examination programs are currently
either computer based or plans are being made to change them
to CBT. Additional professional examinations for CPAs are
expected to be developed over the next several years.
The Psychometrician will also work with the psychometrics
team on the transition between the current paper-based test
and the computer-based test, which will be operational by the
end of 2003. Representative duties include applying classical
equating methods; helping to develop and implement new
passing standard methods; performing statistical analyses of
current examination results, and providing support to
examination committees and task forces.
Job Requirements
The position requires a Ph.D. in psychometrics or a related
field, or a master's degree and two years of applied
experience, preferably in a large-scale testing program. In
addition, preference will be given to candidates with
previous operational testing experience. This position
requires facility with both classical and modern test
theories and the ability to work with high-level
professionals, committees and governing boards. In addition,
candidates having the following qualities will be given
strong consideration: facility with SAS programming,
experience managing item pools and inventories of item pools,
an appreciation of issues related to licensing examinations,
measurement experience with computer-based tests, and
experience managing large-scale projects. The ability to
communicate technical psychometric concepts orally and in
writing to CPAs and other professionals is desirable.

recruiting a Psychometric Research Assistant to provide
technical support for its professional examination programs.
The position will be located in Ewing, NJ, which is located

Job Description
Assist in psychometric research and evaluation of the AICPA's
examination programs being adapted to, or developed for,
computer-based testing. Activities will include psychometric
and statistical analysis of research and operational testing
data. Other activities include supporting other AICPA testing
and research programs. Testing programs currently include the
Uniform CPA Examination, International Uniform CPA
Qualification Examination, Personal Financial Specialist
Examination, and the Accredited in Business Valuation
Examination. Research programs currently include computer-
based testing, examination standard setting, and examination
equating.
Job Requirements
Must have 2-5 years of research analysis experience with
knowledge of statistics equivalent to a first graduate course
(knowledge of full graduate sequence preferred). Must have
the ability to learn and use statistical software (SAS
required; additional experience with other psychometric or
statistical software preferred). Working knowledge of
Microsoft Word required. Working knowledge of spreadsheet and
database software is required (working knowledge of Microsoft
Excel and Access preferred). Must be well organized and be
able to pay close attention to detail. Must be able to
evaluate work products for reasonableness.
