FACULTY POSITION IN SPECIAL EDUCATION

Department of Special Education
College of Education
University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

POSITION: Tenure-line assistant professor in Special
Education with expertise in inclusive education. Department
of Special Education. Available August, 2002.

QUALIFICATIONS: We seek a dynamic researcher and teacher to
fill a tenure-track position as assistant professor.
Qualifications include a Ph.D. in Special Education or
related field, expertise in inclusive education and
facilitating student access to the general education
curriculum, experience collaborating with general educators,
and knowledge of best practices for educating students with
disabilities. Additional expertise in the use of technology
in special education (e.g., assistive technology, CAI) and/or
in developing and using non-traditional teaching formats
(e.g., distance learning, technology based instruction) would
be beneficial. Candidates should possess a strong emerging
record of research, teaching, and service and exhibit the
potential for national leadership in their area of
scholarship.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The individual selected will be expected to
have an active program of research; recruit and mentor
graduate students in their research; advise students in
Special Education; develop and teach courses that serve
teacher candidates inside and outside the Department of
Special Education; be an integral member of a personnel
preparation program in Special Education, including
contributing to the ongoing development of collaborative
activities between teacher education in Special Education and
Curriculum and Instruction; secure external funding;
represent the faculty in state level activities; serve on
faculty committees; and fulfill other roles commonly assumed
by a faculty member.

SALARY: Salary is commensurate with experience.
