The new Department of Teaching and Learning (formerly part of
the Department of Educational Studies) at the University of
Utah has begun an exciting period of restructuring. As a
Research I institution, we have strong commitments to
excellence in research and teaching. To prepare effective
public school educators for today's schools, we seek
colleagues committed to preparing educators to meet the needs
of culturally and linguistically diverse student populations
and to integrate technology into the curriculum. Our
curricular offerings include pre-service programs (early
childhood, elementary, and secondary certification) and
graduate programs (Masters and Ph.D.), and are designed
across five specialty areas: Literacy Education, Mathematics
Education, Science Education, Technology Education, and
Teacher Education.

Responsibilities: Provide collaborative leadership in the
areas of teaching, learning, and teacher education. The chair
will be expected to work closely with the department faculty
and staff in strategic planning and the development of
departmental goals and objectives, innovative and responsive
programs, schedules, and fiscal management.
Qualifications: Expertise and experience working in research
and field-based teacher education programs at both the pre-
service and graduate levels are required. The chair should
hold a doctoral degree in teacher education or an appropriate
specialty or related area. Additionally, the Chair should
have a demonstrated record of strong scholarly productivity,
effective teaching, a commitment to service, and good
collegial relationships. Expertise in one of the department
