The Department of Psychology at Southern Illinois University
at Carbondale (www.siu.edu/~ psyc) announces the following
position opening to begin August, 2002:

Applied Experimental Psychologist/Applied Methodologist

We are seeking an applied research psychologist (Ph.D. in
Psychology) with interests in the application of
psychological theory and research methods to real-world
problems. Preference will be given to candidates with
interests and experience in field research methods and
measurement. Research specializations might include (but are
not limited to) the following areas: applied social,
community, environmental, human-computer interaction,
personnel psychology, social justice (e.g., law &
psychology), or social science research methodology.

Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to conduct
research in applied settings and to extend basic
psychological theory and research to applied problems.
Candidates with consultation experience are preferred. In
addition to courses in his or her area of specialization, the
selected individual will be expected to teach an
undergraduate course in field research methods and
undergraduate and graduate courses in basic and advanced
measurement.

The Psychology Department at SIUC has 26 faculty,
approximately 400 majors, and over 100 graduate students. The
Department has a strong collegial atmosphere and excellent
support for research and teaching. The Department provides
doctoral training in Experimental Psychology with
specializations in Applied Experimental Psychology, and in
Brain and Cognitive Science, as well as separate APA-
accredited programs in Clinical and Counseling Psychology.

Applicants must have either demonstrated potential for
(Assistant Professor level) or an established record of
(Associate Professor level) excellence in teaching,
publication, and externally funded research. Applicants are
expected to have completed all requirements for the Ph.D. by
the date of employment. If all requirements have not been
completed, a one-year term appointment at the rank of
Instructor will be offered.

Applicants should send a cover letter with an explicit
statement of research and teaching interests, a current
curriculum vita, reprints, teaching evaluations (if
available), and have three letters of recommendation sent to
Chair, AEP Search Committee, Department of Psychology,
Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL 62901-6502.
Review of applications will begin November 15, but
applications will be accepted until the position is filled
