Position Description
Professor and Head, Department of Curriculum and Instruction.
This is a 12-month appointment with tenure.

Responsibilities
Provide academic leadership to a growing and dynamic
Department of Curriculum and Instruction. The head of the
Department has administrative responsibilities including
strategic planning, program and curriculum supervision,
faculty evaluation, recommendations for reappointment,
promotion, and tenure, budget management, supervision of
clerical staff, and representing the Department internally
within the College and University, and externally with local
school districts and other education agencies. This
individual will provide leadership in the continuing
development and implementation of strong and innovative
teacher education programs at the undergraduate, master's,
and doctoral levels.

Qualifications
Candidates must have accomplishments as a teacher and scholar
with a national/international reputation appropriate for
appointment at the rank of Full Professor. Applicants must
have an earned doctorate in teacher education, curriculum,
instruction, or related area.

Preferred qualities of the Department Head include: (1)
ability to build consensus, (2) prior collaboration with
public schools and university leadership, (3) appropriate
content background, (4) expertise in instructional
technology, (5) commitment to faculty and staff development,
(6) strong scholarship record, (7) strong grant procurement
record, (8) administrative experience, and (9) expertise with
diverse learners.

Department, College and University
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction has an
enrollment of over 250 students and 19 full-time faculty
members. The Department offers seven degrees including
bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D. The College of Education is
one of 11 colleges and schools at the University. North
Carolina State University is a land grant institution within
the University of North Carolina System. The University has
enrollment of approximately 27,000 students. Raleigh is the
state capital and has a population of approximately 250,000.

will continue until the position is filled.
