Dear Division Program Chairs, SIG Representatives, and Standing Committee Chairs:

In preparation for our upcoming Program Committee meeting, we want to provide some information to encourage you to think about this year’s theme, Non Satis Scire: To Know is Not Enough, and the development of the program.

Please find below a description of tasks that require your attention before the meeting. We detail the processes and criteria for proposing Program Committee sponsored sessions and nominations for speakers for our two distinguished lectures. Please see below for links to electronic forms to submit your session proposals and nominations.

During the meeting in Vancouver, we will work as a group to review all the session proposals and nominations and develop a thoughtful program around this year’s theme. The nine sessions developed by the program committee as part of the presidential set continue to be developed after the Vancouver meeting, but the more theme-related significant research symposia that can be discussed and developed, the richer the program will be. These sessions will be finalized no later than the end of the summer. There will be work to do after our meeting, but this meeting lays the foundation for what we all will do next.

Also, while Cynthia and I make the final decisions on the two distinguished lectures, the nominations you submit and the discussion at the Vancouver meeting can both shape these choices as well as lead to other strong names of scholars who could be featured prominently in the program. Please take the time to submit nominations, especially those whose scholarly track record complement the theme (although this is not a requirement).

The tasks for the program committee work are set forth below. As you will note, in each area you are asked to submit to the 2012 program committee workspace with instructions for doing so. Please submit your proposed sessions and distinguished lecture nominations no later than Friday, May 13, so that we can prepare agenda materials in advance.

Do not hesitate to contact Cynthia or me if you have any questions. We very much look forward to seeing you soon. If you have any difficulty accessing the links below, please contact the AERA central office.

Thanks very much & All the best,

Arnetha

Arnetha F. Ball
AERA President
