Friends and colleagues;
I have followed the discussion for a while and also find it useful and supportive of work that I am trying to do, and work that graduate students here (OISE, University of Toronto) are doing. I am starting a two-part study that along one line will try to construct genealogies of media education in Canada, the UK and Australia (reading documents, policy & curriculum texts, key informant interviews etc.); and along a second line we will do classroom observations. The questions (at this point) are about how the study of media became a more-or-less accepted subject in the school, and asking how those who teach media at school navigate and understand what they are doing.... Hacking's notion of 'looping' will be important to the study, as will analytic strategies in feminist and postcolonial studies, esp. ones that focus on bodies, time and space. I would appreciate suggestions/ideas from others on the list.

I'm a doctoral supervisor who is fortunate to be working with a number of graduate students who explore/use/discuss/critique Foucault in their thesis. Many of them have taken a course that I have taught for several years, called "Foucault and Research in Education: Discourse, Power and the Subject."
Cheers,
Kari Dehli

Dear Friends,

I had hopes to write a thing on classroom studies for the AERA meeting but went out of time. I am really hoping to continue this discussion - enjoyed it very much.
So - a long time plan would be for 2011. We in Gothenburg will try to develop the study of persistence/change of recitation in classroom interaction. Would be happy for cooperation here.

All the best from the Swedish West Coast!

Welcome to our world, Sandra! This is what the list is for.

The Foucault SIG is a space from which to support a critical
(poststructural) orientation towards educational problems. I strongly
encourage supervisors of doctoral students exploring Foucault to begin a
conversation about their work and that of others by posting comments on
the list.

We are also interested in hearing from established researchers like
Sverker who are trying new approaches and those members experimenting
with other theorists (I, for example, have been playing around with
Judith Butler to think about why students might "throw away" educational
opportunity).

Cheers
Linda

I am a doctoral candidate writing my prospectus. In reviewing the
literature, I have encountered several articles of original sources
addressing Foucalt's work. I am looking forward to receiving continued
scholarly interaction on this and other topics! This is GREAT!

s it OK to ask a question like this?
We are studying classroom video recordings and would like to develop
what could
e called a foucauldian framework here for analyses (or for instance to
Ian
ackings notions on looping when relating the works of Foucault and
Goffman). Is
here anybody out there working on such issues?
