The Department of Educational Foundations, Research, Technology, and 

Leadership (EFRTL) in the Beeghly College of Education (BCOE) at 

Youngstown State University invites applications for a tenure-track 

faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in the Foundations of 

Education beginning in the fall semester of 2009. Salary will depend on 

qualifications and experience. The successful applicant will contribute 

to bachelor’s and master’s programs in Teacher Education, and master’s 

and doctoral programs in Educational Leadership. All programs in the 

College are NCATE accredited.



Minimum qualifications consist of an earned doctorate (ABDs with a 

definite plan to graduate by August, 2009 will be considered.) in 

Educational Foundations, Educational Studies, Social Policy, or a 

related specialty, publication of research in the discipline and/or an 

active research agenda, and knowledge of the current research and 

theory in three or more of the following teaching areas: (a) 

introduction to education, (b) education and society, (c) sociology or 

history or philosophy of education, (d) qualitative research methods, 

and (e) education policy and social justice. Desirable qualifications 

consist of three years of school-based experience in P-12 education, 

experience working with diverse populations, university teaching, and 

familiarity with sources of external funding. Women and members of 

historically underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
