several Rethinking Schools writers, including Ann Pelo (editor of
"Rethinking Early Childhood Education"), Jana Dean, Tim Swinehart, and
Michi Thacker. Keynote speaker is Ira Shor, co-author with Paulo Freire
of "A Pedagogy for Liberation," and author of one of the first books on
social justice teaching, "Critical Teaching and Everyday Life."

Saturday, October 10th, the annual Teachers 4 Social Justice conference
in San Francisco. Visit www.t4sj.org <http://www.t4sj.org/> . This
conference has turned into a major gathering of social justice educators
from all around the country. This year's conference theme is "Teaching
for Social Justice: Foundations for Change." Keynoter is Pedro Noguera,
with a closing address by Jeff Duncan-Andrade. Rethinking Schools
editors Bill Bigelow and Linda Christensen will be presenting. Wayne Au,
editor of "Rethinking Multicultural Education," and Jody Sokolower, our
new Policy and Production Editor, will also be staffing the Rethinking
Schools tables.
Saturday, November 21, the 9th Annual Chicago Area Teaching for Social
Justice Curriculum Fair. Visit http://teachersforjustice.org

Justice (Chicago), co-sponsored by Rethinking Schools. Anti-racist,
pro-justice, multicultural, critical, and participatory: Curriculum,
workshops, and culture. Rethinking Schools editors Bob Peterson and
Melissa Tempel, along with business manager, Mike Trokan, will be in
attendance and Rethinking Schools books will be on display and for sale.
In addition, Rethinking Schools will also be at these upcoming
conferences:
October 8-10, The Peace and Justice Studies Association annual
conference in Milwaukee, Wis. Rethinking schools staff and editors will
be running a booth.
Friday, October 23, Rethinking Schools editor Linda Christensen will
give the keynote address, "Putting Out the Linguistic Welcome Mat:
Teaching about Language and Power," and lead a workshop at the Wisconsin
Council of Teachers of English conference in Milwaukee. Rethinking
Schools staff will also run a booth there.
October 29 - 30. Rethinking Schools will run a booth during the
Wisconsin Education Association Council's statewide teacher convention
in Milwaukee.
