AERA Graduate Students,

Each year the Vocabulary SIG gives a Student Vocabulary Research Award to an individual who has presented a paper pertaining to vocabulary teaching/learning at the previous AERA conference (2016 AERA Conference - Washington D.C.). Individuals who are interested, please contact, Program Chair, Dr. Tanya Wright ([log in to unmask]) by September 30th Here are the following requirements for the Student Vocabulary Research Award:
  1. The individual must have presented a paper about vocabulary teaching/learning at the previous AERA conference (Washington, D.C.).
  2. The individual must have had student status at the time they submitted their proposals. However, students do not have to be a member of the vocabulary SIG at the time of application for the award.
  3. The research paper needs to include the following sections: Literature Review and Theoretical Framework, Research Questions or Goals, Methods, Results, and Discussion. The committee cannot review conference proposals, abstracts, or dissertations. The maximum length of the paper is 5000 words, excluding references, tables, and graphics.
  4. Submitted papers may be sole-authored or co-authored, with the student as the lead author. Co-authored papers with faculty or other students should make clear that the student was the lead and primary author in the letter of recommendation. In the case where two or more students are co-authors of the paper with an equal contribution, the students may apply to share the award. This indication should be made clear in the letter of recommendation.
  5. The individual needs to have a letter of recommendation from a faculty member, who has advised or worked with the student, stating that this paper includes original research led by the student(s) applying for the award.
